I'd love to attend something on current trends and challenges in fic writing & reading, beyond specific fandoms. Could be subject matter or types of characters/pairings or style or tropes or social factors (dealing with "antis" and whatnot). I feel I've lost touch with what's going on in fandom writ large, and FanWorks could be a great place to hear from others.

I would love a panel on different levels of authorial "ownership" of fic universes/premises - looking at things like

a) how fandom often draws a line between source/canon concepts as shared property, and fic author universes/concepts as authorial property

b) when fic universes/concepts are considered shared by community, eg AUs built by open contributions

c) fanfic of fanfic - stories written as sequels to/expansions of someone else's story

d) what happens when a key piece of a story's premise or characterization becomes a fanon trope & how fandom etiquette/consensus differs on ownership of fanon vs. ownership of specific fic plots

(...and more?)

I am a sucker for anything POV, so maybe a craft panel about how we choose and maintain character's perspectives in a story? And the relative merits of first, third, and second person -- when to do which and what they might look like when done well!

A panel on betaing. Everybody does it differently and wants different things out of it -- let's talk about it.

And maybe a panel on editing -- both before you get to the beta stage and after. What are some good methods for looking critically at one's own work? (Maybe this could be an instruction panel, too, or the basis for one in the future -- bring a draft with you and workshop it based on tips/prompts!)

I'd be really interested in a panel about what happens when a fic fandom breaks up with the canon. There are a number of popular fandoms (MCU and Teen Wolf both come to mind) where a remarkably large amount of the fanfic just ignores the canon after a certain commonly-recognized point, and I find it fascinating.
